Perks Deconstruction Reclaimed Lumber Warehouse in Commerce City, Colorado

The Perks’ Reclaimed Lumber Warehouse has always been a mission-driven operation. In fact, we opened in 2022 after receiving a grant from the Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to open what we called “Denver’s first deconstruction warehouse.”

Tons of reclaimed lumber, flooring, light fixtures, kitchen cabinets, and more have been pouring into our store ever since, and we’re so grateful to our customers, many of whom are in the DIY, green building, and home improvement space, for visiting our store online, regularly checking our inventory, and stopping by Wed-Sun to see what’s in stock!

The Reclaimed Lumber Warehouse Mission

The Warehouse serves many purposes:

  1. To process reclaimed lumber, flooring and other materials for reuse (sometimes we fix things too!)

  2. To create a market in the Denver metro area for reusable building materials that other places can’t accept or process

  3. To sell discounted, sometimes unique reclaimed building materials to the public

  4. And now… to offer custom, made-to-order reclaimed wood products!

In a nutshell: We salvage everything we can from deconstruction jobs by processing what needs to be processed, fixing items, and giving a home to perfectly reusable materials that don’t currently have a market. This allows us to maximize our waste diversion rates for projects and recover as many materials as possible without having to worry as much about “finding a market” for the miscellaneous materials we come across.

Handcrafted reclaimed and repurposed products

While our deconstruction field crew is out salvaging materials around Denver and Boulder County, inside the Warehouse, our staff are processing materials and making repurposed products! Our Warehouse Coordinator and Woodworker Josh handcrafts small pieces of furniture and other materials from reclaimed lumber from our warehouse. Here are some of the items he’s built so far:

  • Reclaimed garden beds

  • Reclaimed wood outdoor storage sheds

  • Reclaimed wood bookshelves

We love to see materials get repurposed, take great care in creating products that show off the beauty and original nature of reclaimed wood, and offer the finest craftsmanship.

Warehouse operations: Processing materials for reuse

Our staff is always keeping busy processing the salvaged materials coming in from job sites. Sometimes that means dusting off cabinets and fixtures. Other times it means trying to repair an item that’s just too good to be thrown out. Most of the time, though, it means removing nails and trimming ends off of lumber and flooring. We help local DIYers, builders, and artists acquire sustainable materials

Reclaimed wood fence and raised garden beds

We’re always excited when we can help a customer build or create a reused gem. We’ve seen vans get decked out and guitars get made and tiny homes get built with our reclaimed materials. Check out our instagram page for pics from customers.

Reclaimed building materials: A Zero Waste building option for a sustainable future

Reclaimed material customers always feel great knowing they’re buying locally-sourced, sustainable materials for their projects. In fact, buying used vs. new has many positive impacts:

  • Wood and other biodegradable materials are salvaged and given a new life instead of rotting in a landfill and creating greenhouse gases

  • Selling used materials helps create a localized, circular economy where materials are reused instead of wasted, reducing waste and pollution and providing green building materials to the community

  • Reclaimed materials provide an equitable and sustainable building resource for communities, providing high-quality materials at major discounts
