Partners in Deconstruction: Resource Central in Boulder

Deconstructing houses and reclaiming building materials wouldn’t be possible without reuse markets to absorb and resell the materials. We’re lucky to have many local reuse resources in the area that accept used building materials and other household items for reuse. In Boulder, there’s a particular reuse powerhouse that we’ve partnered with since our inception, and that is Resource Central!

Resource Central’s Materials Reuse Facility

Among its many programs that help conserve local resources like water and energy, Resource Central has a reuse facility in Boulder where they accept used building materials like windows, lumber, fixtures, and more and resell them back to the public. Some of the materials they regularly have in stock include:

  • Reclaimed windows

  • Reclaimed lighting

  • Reclaimed tile

  • Reclaimed bathroom fixtures

  • Reclaimed kitchen fixtures

The nonprofit organization also hosts a reclaimed tool sale each year, which Perks’ staff members frequently volunteer for.

Resource Central: A Partner in Deconstruction

We work with Resource Central in a few different ways: During a deconstruction project, we do a walk-through of the structure and snap photos of the materials that are unwanted but reusable. We then share these photos with Resource Central, who helps us appraise materials and let us know whether any materials can’t be accepted.

After a deconstruction project, we call them for a pick-up, where all the sorted, reusable building materials they will accept are loaded into their trucks and headed to the reuse facility.

How Shopping Reclaimed Makes a Difference

By choosing reclaimed materials, you’re not only saving money: You’re also contributing to a circular economy that reduces waste and lowers the demand for new resources. Every piece of salvaged lumber, every reclaimed fixture, and every reused tile represents a step toward a more sustainable future. These materials carry a story, and incorporating them into your projects adds character and history that new materials simply can’t replicate.

Supporting the Local Economy and Environment

Resource Central’s work doesn’t just benefit individual homeowners and renovators—it strengthens the local economy by creating jobs, fostering community connections, and keeping valuable resources in use. Plus, by diverting materials from landfills, they help Boulder meet its environmental goals and reduce the carbon footprint associated with producing and transporting new materials.

Get Involved with Resource Central

In addition to shopping for reclaimed materials, you can get involved by donating your own unwanted building materials or volunteering at their events. Whether you’re remodeling, decluttering, or simply looking to make a positive impact, Resource Central provides a way to contribute to the community and the environment.
