Chimney removal & Deconstruction
How we deconstruct fireplaces and chimneys to salvage materials for recycling and reuse
Lately we’ve been getting a lot of requests for chimney removals. With folks moving more toward electric fireplaces, it’s no wonder these projects are up!
Unlike your typical chimney demolition, which results in landfilling useful building materials, with deconstruction practices, chimney removals can result in hundreds or thousands of pounds of materials being reused and recycled – sometimes from a single job! You can find a lot of these reclaimed materials at our Warehouse.
Materials Salvaged from Chimney Removals
From the interior to the exterior, various materials from chimneys can be salvaged during the deconstruction process. Building materials like misc. brick, concrete, and stone can be removed and recycled into aggregate road base. Scrap metal can be recycled. Brick and stone carefully dismantled and preserved during the deconstruction process can be donated for reuse.
When it comes to gas fireplace inserts, we find that local nonprofits aren’t as quick to accept them for reuse since many people now prefer electric fireplaces, so we often recycle them as scrap metal.
The Chimney Deconstruction Process
Our fireplace removal process is systematic and efficient. With a team of 3 to 4 professionals, we start from the top of the chimney and work our way down, ensuring that everything is disassembled safely. We typically use hammer drills to take apart the structure. We also prioritize protecting your space, offering site protection for flooring and dust containment measures as needed.
